Chemguide: Support for CIE A level Chemistry Learning outcome 7(g) This statement is about the reasons for the conditions used in the Haber and Contact Processes. Before you go on, you should find and read the statement in your copy of the syllabus. The statement strictly only looks at the conditions with respect to the position of equilibrium, but it really doesn't make sense to do this without also thinking about the rates of the reactions at the same time. The pages I am going to ask you to look at have equilibrium and rates (and some economics!) thoroughly mixed up, because the choice of conditions depends on all of these. It would be daft to try to separate out one set of factors and ignore the rest. In any case, you will have to do the conditions for the Haber Process in this sort of detail for learning outcome 9.6(c). Follow this link for the Haber Process. Follow this link for the Contact Process.
