Chemguide: Support for CIE A level Chemistry

Learning outcome 10.6(i)

This statement is about the formation of polyesters. It will only be examined at the end of a two year course.

Before you go on, you should find and read the statement in your copy of the syllabus.

You will find everything you need on the page about polyesters. Ignore the bit about their manufacture.

There is no suggestion in the syllabus that you should know about the hydrolysis of polyesters. However, their hydrolysis is just the same as any other ester, and it seems like the sort of question that CIE might come up with. For safety, read the bit about the hydrolysis of polyesters at the bottom of that page, and make sure you understand it.
