Chemguide: Support for CIE A level Chemistry

Learning outcome 5.1.3

Enthalpy change definitions

This statement simply defines and explains various important terms in chemical energetics

Before you go on, you should find and read the statement in your copy of the syllabus.

You will find enthalpy changes of reaction, formation and combustion, together with an explanation of standard conditions and standard states, on the Chemguide page various enthalpy change definitions.

Important! The syllabus takes standard pressure as 101kPa which to 3 significant figures is the equivalent of the old term "1 atmosphere".You will be expected to learn that, and not use the 100kPa figure quoted on Chemguide.

You will find enthalpy change of neutralisation on the Chemguide page enthalpy change of neutralisation.
